Good Evening Calvary Chapel Lake City!
So… did you guys watch anything good on TV last night?
Praise God for His Election mercy in halting evil leaders, agendas and policies that have been propagating our society.
Prior to the election… I was feeling doubtful… I was ready to do a sermon on Israel rejecting God and choosing Saul as king…
Then last night that shifted and I felt “nauseously optimistic”… but, I was still nervous that I would wake up and see a blue shift, but praise God we just saw a landslide victory.
I spoke with 2 Calvary organizations today. Calvary Philly in PA and Calvary Distribution in CA (who sells Chuck Smith’s books)…
And, I asked them “what’s the election vibe out there?”
And, this was just two people, but from the East Coast to the West Coast… there is great excitement about God’s mercy upon our land.
Our prayers were heard and answered!
Alright… confession time… how many of you scandalously tuned in to watch the despondent faces of the people last night at the DNC party at Howard University?
Which was a lifeless party. They saw the writing on the wall. Kamala didn’t even show up to her own party. Terrible.
Anyone tune in to MSDNC to hear their reactions? Not happy at all.
It was a guilty little pleasure.
But,… Pray for them… they need Jesus. They’re lost and deceived by the evil lies of this world.
Well… we will no doubt continue to relish in victory, but that’s not why we are gathered here tonight.
I’m excited to say please open your Bibles to the Book of Genesis. Genesis Chapter 1 tonight… and welcome to our first long anticipated Mid-Week Service!
Genesis is the Book of Beginnings… God has blessed us with how life began… how we fell… how mankind was cursed…
And, the beginning of God’s plan to bless mankind through His seed… through a Savior…
As Scripture and time and history unfolds… how much more revelation have we received…
We live in a time where we can look back and see how God’s plan to redeem mankind unfolded in the person of Jesus Christ and His propitiating death on the cross.
During Jesus’ ministry He said privately to His disciples, “Blessed are the eyes which see the things you see; 24 for I tell you that many prophets and kings have desired to see what you see, and have not seen it, and to hear what you hear, and have not heard it.”
They beheld the Christ… the Messiah… and His ministry… the Transfiguration… the Last Supper… His death and resurrection… His ascension.
And, some of those disciples were inspired by the Holy Spirit to ascribe what they saw… and what they heard… the lessons… His teachings....
And, we have those writings in the Bible. We have the full canon of Scripture…
So, tonight… we go all the way back to the beginning of Scripture… viewing the beginning of Creation…
In a message titled, “In the Beginning God...”
And, since we are starting a new study on this book… tonight will be a general introduction to the Book of Genesis…
Somewhat of a ‘who, what, where, when, and why… if you will...”
Let’s pray, and then get into the word.
In reverence for God’s word, please stand as I read our passage.
Gen 1:1 “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”
Praise God for His word. Please be seated.
If you’re a former Catholic… that quick stand and sit probably felt reminiscent. Lot’s of stand, sit, and kneel in the Catholic church.
Genesis… the first Book of the Old Testament… the first Book of the Bible… the author is Moses.
Not that he identifies himself as the author in his writings, but both scripture and about 3500 years of Jewish tradition hold that Moses wrote the Torah… the first 5 books of the Bible. (Also called the Pentateuch).
Some contest this… I don’t.
We know Moses was "learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians” (Acts 7:22), thus he had sufficient literacy skills and the ability to record.
We know he heard directly from God at Horeb and throughout his life.
On the road to Emmaus (Luke 24:27), it’s recorded Jesus expounded “Moses and all the Prophets” to the Emmaus road disciples.
… Giving a nod to the Mosaic writings and his authorship.
Jesus said a similar thing in Luke 16:29 in the telling of the Rich Man and Lazarus in hades… “‘They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.’”
And what really seals it for me is John 5:46 “For if you believed Moses, you would believe Me; for he wrote about Me.”
Not everyone believes Moses penned the Torah, but Jesus and the NT writers certainly believed… I’ll go with them.
Moses was not in the very beginning with God…
According to Deut 34… Moses died at 120 at 120 years of age.
And, it’s thought his years of life were from around 1520 to 1400 B.C., so somewhere around 1440-1400 B.C.... his final 40 years of life… he would have penned the Torah…
This was the 40 years after the Exodus from Egypt, but before entering the Promised Land… because he died before the Israelites entered the land of Canaan.
The name of the book is derived from Genesis 2:4a in the Greek Old Testament (the Septuagint).
Gen 2:4 reads in New King James, “This is the history of the heavens and the earth when they were created…”
“History” in Hebrew is “toledoth” lit. “generations”…
This is the history… some bible translations say “account” or “generations” or “records.”
The Gk translation reads Gen 2:4 “This is the book of the origins (geneseōs) of heaven and earth.”
Origins… Gk geneseōs… and from there “Genesis.”
The first three words are “In the beginning” and in Hebrew that reads Bĕrēʾšı̂t which is the title for Genesis in the Jewish Bible.
Bĕrēʾšı̂t (In the beginning).
It’s the book of origins of how GOD created all things… including life… where God defined male and female… and marriage between man and woman…
Good and Godly concepts that are being redefined by culture as ‘evil.’
It’s a book where shares the historical basis for God’s covenant with His people.
That through the Jews “all the nations of the earth shall be blessed”…
… through the seed or the lineage of Abraham would come a Messiah… who would bless Jews and Gentiles alike with the free gift of Salvation which come by faith alone.
Gen 3:15 the protoevangelium- the first sharing of the plan of salvation.
And, we see many types in this book…
Abraham sacrificing Isaac… a father willing to sacrifice his son. But, God provided Himself a lamb.
Joseph as a type for Jesus.
The Christophanies…
Gen 18 “… the LORD appeared to him by the terebinth trees of Mamre…”
Three men appear to Abraham prior to Sodom and Gomorrah…
They ate with Abraham. They were physically present.
Two are identified as angels in Gen 19… they proceed to the city.
One remains… and repeatedly He is referred to as the LORD… and Abraham refers to Him as LORD (all caps)… Hebrew Yod, Heh, Vav, and Heh YHVH… the tetragrammaton… we say Yehovah or Yahweh in English.
This cannot be the Father because in Exo 33:20 the LORD said, “You cannot see My face; for no man shall see Me, and live.”
John 1:18a "No one has seen God at any time…."
1 John 4:12a "No one has seen God at any time...."
This is not an angel as JW’s say, but clearly in Gen 19… Yehovah… and the only solution is this is not the Father, but the Son.
Genesis reveals Jesus is Yehovah.
A major problem for any cult that denies Jesus is God.
Gen 1:1 begins “In the beginning God… ”
These are probably the most read words in all of history.
In the Top 10 lists of Most Famous or Most Popular Bible verses today… Gen 1:1 consistently finds itself on that list.
John 3:16 is consistently listed as #1. I still see John 3:16 signs during football games during field goal attempts.
That trend started by Rainbow Man at sporting events in the 1970’s still persists.
Anyone remember that crazy guy with the rainbow afro wig? His story didn’t end well, but people still hold the 3:16 signs.
For a person who aspires to read the Bible… they typically get at far as Gen 1:1… many don’t go beyond that…
But they read those words, “In the beginning God created...”
From there they have to make a choice to either accept or reject that truth.
Do I believe that it was God who was in the beginning who created the forces of nature (gravity, electromagnetism, and nuclear forces)… then protons, neutrons, chemical elements, matter… and breathed life into existence.
Did God do all of this… or did the universe began from a single primordial atom?
There are two major world views in the beginning God… or in the beginning… a major cosmic accident.
This will be the focus of our message tonight to talk about origins… to talk about these major views because if we cannot establish that in the beginning God… none of the rest matters.
If creation is a myth, and the flood is a myth, and other accounts in Genesis, like Sodom and Gomorrah are not real… as some argue it’s all allegorical or figurative…
Then we have major problems as Christians… especially with our eschatology.
If you believe Jesus’ Second Coming is literal… and your hoping in that… and living for His imminent return, but you don’t believe in a literal creation account…
Then there is a conflict especially with how Jesus viewed these things.
In Luke 17, Jesus was asked by the Pharisee when the kingdom of God would come…
So, they ask about the second coming… and Jesus responds citing the days of His coming will be “as it was in the days of Noah” (Gen 6), citing the depravity of mankind who lived without thought of Him until the “flood came and destroyed them all” …
… and “as it was also in the days of Lot” (Gen 19) citing the overwhelming depravity in Sodom and Gomorrah… where the men of that town wanted to homo-sexually rape the angels investigating them (and that didn’t go so well for them… they were struck with blindness)… and then the whole city was destroyed by fire & brimstone.
And, when Jesus returns… that will be the climate of the world… and we can look around and see the world is prime for judgment… and judgment will come which the Bible calls the Tribulation.
And, while that is the context… in light of our Genesis study… don’t miss this point.
Jesus cites two events in Genesis as literal events… and He doesn’t use figurative language.
Jesus believed in a literal Genesis account… and He linked His second coming to the Genesis accounts.
So if you’re going to throw out literal creation… you have to throw out a literal eschatology.
Again, it comes down to “In the beginning God”… or “In the beginning”… accidental explosion… and Genesis is just a pretty story.
And, to this day… the “Big Bang Theory” remains the most popular theory for the secular scientific community.
And, it is a theory… though it’s often presented as fact.
Once upon a time… in the 1950’s the “Steady State” theory was the dominant theory amongst astronomers, but now that theory is obsolete.
But, there’s always going to be anti-God theories… in our present world of sin.
And there are currently other theories emerging…
Dark matter and dark energy theories are speculated to play a role after the Big Bang in shaping the structure of the universe.
The “Bouncing Universe Theory” holds the universe cycles through expansion and contraction.
And, here’s a real winner… the “Simulation Theory” (I really love this one)… it holds our reality is a computer simulation created by advanced beings… sounds like the movie “The Matrix”… it’s fiction science.
And, the danger with these various theories… any of them… is if your origin is an accident… and you evolved from primordial ooze… that became an ape…
Then mankind is just a little higher then the monkeys… but that’s NOT what the Bible says.
The Bible says we were made a little lower than the angels (Heb 2:7).
And, you can pick how you want to define yourself… I know which I prefer.
Much of the world today does not want to acknowledge God… they reject “In the beginning God…”
Because if we are just another species like the animal kingdom… we can live however we want.
God and morality… and accountability for our actions are NOT a factor.
These theories are not just about looking back to the origin…
They shape the morality of how one lives today.
What you believe has serious implications to views of the value of life, morality, society, eternity.
If ‘in the beginning’ creation was a cosmic accident… and life on earth evolved from a few original or progenitor species and by means of natural selection, and microevolutionary changes, and random mutations… as Darwinism and Neo-Darwinism theories postulate… over some 4.5 billion years as radiometric dating "has proved” (and I say that with sarcasm because radiometric dating has it’s own problems because wrong assumptions lead to incorrect dates)… Answers in Genesis has articles on this flawed science.
But, if we are simply descendants of a now extinct ape like species…
Then the words are true of England’s once highest-ranking Catholic official (Henry Cardinal Manning), when he denounced Darwin’s views… he said Darwinism was “a brutal philosophy – to wit, there is no God, and the ape is our Adam.”
If we were not created by God… and are just the top of the food chain… then we are not made in His image… we have no special place in creation, nor a soul…
And, if we have no God designed beginning… if we cannot believe “In the beginning God”, then how can we believe anything else in God’s word?
How can we believe in a Savior and the Gospel?
If we can’t believe in the beginning… how can we believe in the end?
If you can’t believe what God says about Creation then how can you believe about what he says about salvation or about revelation?
If God was not present in the beginning… how would He suddenly appear in the end?
Without God in the beginning… there is no afterlife… there is no heaven.
We just perish… and return to dust.
Thus, the morals of the Christian faith could be tossed aside… we could live however we want.
Once you determine your origin, then you determine your moral stance.
And, there’s all kinds of crossover here to our Roman’s study Sunday mornings.
Rom 1:20-21 states, “For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, 21 because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened.”
And what happens in a society that denies the evidence of creation and suppresses the truth of God in unrighteousness?
In Rom 1, we read “God gave them up....” He pours out His wrath of abandonment…
Allowing that individual and society to evolve into what a society without God evolves into…
V24 of Rom 1… they commit all forms of heterosexual sin…
Just like the Sexual Revolution in the 1960’s & 70’s…
V26 of Rom 1… they commit all forms of homosexual sin…
Just like the Gay Liberation Movement from 1969 to 1980.
V28 of Rom 1… they minds become debased or depraved…
… which is described as “being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, 30 backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful...”
Just turn on the news and and every night you will hear a story that testifies our society is now depraved.
Prior to the election… I watched several Kamala Harris videos recently which testify of the word “deceit” in Rom 1:29
In one video she told voters they were at the wrong rally for shouting out “Jesus is Lord”…
Another was of her campaigning with drag queens.
And her policies support anti-biblical values… pro-gay everything… pro-choice everything… and anti- religious liberty.
And yet… several more videos have surfaced of her speaking from pulpits at various churches… proclaiming “God is good,”… and talking about her Christian upbringing… but misquoting scripture… and being really careful NOT to use the name of Jesus Christ.
She says “God” a lot… and likes to talk about Paul… but avoids the name of Jesus.
It’s deceit. And, praise God that’s NOT going to be our President.
But, this deceit is not surprising… because not just society, but many churches, and our educational system has shut God out.
And, when that happens… anything goes.
An example is what has historically happened in our schools…
In 1962, the Supreme Court ruled that school-sponsored prayer was unconstitutional.
In 1963, the court ruled school-sponsored Bible reading was unconstitutional.
In 1980, the court ruled that posting the Ten Commandments in public school classrooms was unconstitutional.
And now 62 years later since these shifts began… scientific naturalism is the dominant worldview… there is an aversion for the subject of God in many school settings…
Statistics are rising for gun violence during school hours… and suicides… and moral decline… even homosexuals are frustrated with transgenders because it takes depravity to a lower level and the hard fought mainstream acceptance for homosexuals has been damaged… but once you open the door for depraved thinking… how can you stop it?
Post Covid… 2022 was a record year, in a bad way, for shooting related incidents during school hours… nationally it was the first year that number exceeded 100 incidents since 1970.
You won’t find a link to removing God from schools as the cause, but we know.
And, this is anecdotal, but on that list of gun violence stats since 1970… not once is Warsaw, IN on the map. The closest document incidents to us are South Bend and Indy.
But, our local High School is still very open to allowing students and ministers of the Gospel to have a voice in school. Is that a coincidence?
There were over 49,000 Americans who died by suicide in 2022.
Our world has come to a place where there is a lack of commitment to marriage… to job… to religion.
And the crazy thing is involvement with religion has shown to be a stabilizing factor in individual lives and in society… better mental health… better grades… a more well rounded worldview… better empathy and compassion… a stronger moral compass… true community… religion fosters critical thinking…
But, society wants God out of creation… and out of schools… because mankind loves darkness rather than light.
If there is a designer, then you have to give an account to Him… that and society doesn’t want moral accountability.
One apologist, Frank Turek, asks students on college campuses, “If Christianity were true, would you become a Christian?” And, many atheists yell back “No” and they eventually admit it’s because of morality. They don’t want Christianity because they don’t want to be held accountable. It’s not an intellectual or logical issue, but a moral and volitional issue… they don’t want it to be true.
And, look… it’s important that I mention that there’s still a faithful remnant in our schools… who still believe “In the beginning God”… faithful students and faithful teachers being a light in a very dark place. I don’t want to take away from their boldness.
I have two daughters in public school… being a light in the world… pray for them. My neighbor is a school teacher who is leading the youth every Thursday morning in a Christian curriculum. Pray for her.
Unfortunately… gone are the days of God and prayer and scripture as part of school curriculum… today it takes a bold and faith remnant to be the light in the world in our schools.
Today, Christians in public schools are the minority… they are the remnant… and our school cultures are suffering as a result…
General society wants to attribute the tragedies in our schools as due to other factors… like 2nd Amendment gun rights…
But, guns in homes… and God in school historically have always been part of our culture…
These new statistical trends of tragedy in schools… they are the fallout of debased thinking… we’re at the breaking point in our society…
What a society believes shapes that society.
And, we are seeing the results unfold before our eyes of a society that has removed God from the creation equation.
But, we still believe “In the beginning God...”
One more point on the view of creation and how that shapes morality…
There’s some debate over whether the following quote is true, but I don’t doubt the authenticity of the motive behind the statement.
There is a quote attributed to the grandson of “Darwin’s bulldog” T.H. Huxley. The grandson’s name is Sir Julian Huxley… he was the ambassador for evolution in his day and was the president and founder of UNESCO, and served as a President to the British Eugenics Society and the British Humanist Association (who seek to live good lives without religious or superstitious beliefs).
And, when asked why evolution caught on so quickly in the 1800’s… when the tenets of Darwinian Evolution held unprovable assumptions.
Which remain unprovable still today, and stand in contradiction to the Scientific Method… we’ve never observed macro evolution like bacteria becoming people or one species becoming another… the fossil record has not proven evolution…
So, why was evolution accepted so rapidly? It’s attributed to Sir Julian Huxley as saying, “[I suppose the reason] we all jumped at Origins was because the idea of God interfered with our sexual mores.”
Who cares about scientific evidence when you’ve found a plausible justification to erase God and morals… and to justify sexual immorality! When evolution replaces God, then everything is permissible.
Whether or not Sir Julian Huxley made that statement… his life testified that he believed it… it’s documented that on more than one occasion he was unfaithful to his wife…
At age 43, he fell in love with an 18-year old American girl, and then presented his wife with the idea of an open marriage. He wife wrote, "What Julian really wanted was … a definite freedom from the conventional bonds of marriage."
Another of his affairs was with a woman who in turn also had an affair with his wife. But hey… they had abandoned faith, so who cares?
Huxley was also mentally unstable. He was known to have severe depression… it was thought that he had bi-polar.
During one of his stays at a nursing home, following a nervous breakdown… his brother also checked in to the same nursing home… also because of nervous breakdown… and the brother committed suicide while there.
This is one of the families our culture has looked to guide them in matters of creation and evolution… all without God.
Great Britain even knighted him in 1958.
So, what’s the big deal? He had a view we disagree with… he had some personal issues in life, but who doesn’t? What’s the big deal?
Well… the big deal is when a culture embraces and allows Godless views to infiltrate and shape culture… all kinds of human atrocities result.
For example, Huxley was an advocate for trans-humanism… he coined that term in a paper he wrote in 1957… and suggested in that paper that we must create more favorable social environments by creating new premises of what is beauty and what is ugly… suggesting “ugly or depressing towns are immoral and we must aim at the quality of people, not mere quantity”… and “prevent the flood of population-increase.”
These are his exact words in his paper. And you can see how there is a ‘god-complex’ because what gives him the right to define beauty and ugly? … and how does one control population? Who decides this?
It’s better to say NOT that Huxley was an advocate for ‘EVOlution’, but for ‘EVILution’… because that’s what it is.
So many people blindly except evolution without even understanding the implication of origins.
If life is simply a mistake… and there is no design and no purpose… and there’s no hand of God involved in origin… then the fruit of that philosophy is as cruel as the animal kingdom.
We might as well “behave like dogs and breed like rabbits.”
But that results terrible consequences of death and disease.
Not surprising, Huxley was also a proponent of eugenics (which was invented by Sir Francis Galton in 1883)…
This is the “science” of improving racial stock… which was developed through “new heredity theory” and Darwin’s “evolutionary theory.”
And, where does it go? Galton’s program sought to regulate marriage and procreation to produce a better human race.
Again a ‘god-complex.’ Who entrusted him to define a “better human race”?
Huxley later explored gene manipulation to improve the genetic quality of some and inhibit the fertility of supposed inferior people groups.
It’s linked to scientific racism… which also grew out of Darwin’s theory of evolution … and Mendel’s laws of inheritance.
And, people blindly say “I believe in evolution.”
Here’s the result of God-less views such as these…
It’s been used in the United States to justify slavery…
And contemporary to Huxley… who was rising in his ranks? Hitler.
Hitler came to power in 1933, and adopted so many of these principles.
He used eugenics to attempt to build the Aryan race (blonde hair and blue eyed people… quite the paradox because Hitler himself didn’t have these features… he had dark hair and dark eyes).
And, eugenics was used by Hitler to justify the “Aktion T4” campaign of mass murder through involuntary euthanasia of those deemed “incurably sick” which took the lives of about 300,000…
There was forced sterilization of those deemed “undesirable”… at least 400,000 people with disabilities (deaf, blind, CP, muscular dystrophy, epilepsy), those with mental health issues, homosexuals and transgenders (who they called “transvestites” as the time)… women received tubal ligations against their will… I’m not sure what they did to the men… But, up to 300,000 men and women were murdered under the Aktion T4 euthanasia program.
Plus, Hitler’s “Final Solution to the Jewish Question”… the genocidal plan from 1941-1945 (and it’s deadliest phase “Operation Reinhard” which sought to murder Jews in General Government… and Polish Jews)… all this kicked off the extermination of Jews… which led to roughly 6 million Jews being murdered largely in gas chambers.
Propaganda deemed them an inferior and evil race… even less than human…
And, when you think of someone as less than human… or “not yet human” as is the case with Abortion… society justifies murder.
We think Hitler was a mass murderer. Since Roe v Wade in 1973… National Right to Life reports over 63 millions abortions have taken place.
And, so… a big debate is when does human life begin? At fertilization? That remains the majority consensus in the scientific and religious communities.
But that’s being challenged. Some are arguing that life beginning at conception is a religious concept NOT a scientific one… and if life can be redefined to begin “at birth”… abortion is not a moral issue.
But let’s just call a spade a spade. They don’t truly want rights to abortion or choice. They want to legalize infanticide. Let’s just call it what it is.
Origins matter… In the beginning God… or life becomes whatever immoral man imagines it to be.
In the beginning… when’s that?
It’s the time that predates all of creation.
Jesus was there.
John 1:1 declares “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”
John 1:14 confirms this was Jesus.
And, scripture also confirms all three persons of the Godhead had their hand in creation…
Heb 1:2 God “… has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds...”
The Father speaking to the Son in Heb 1:10 says, “You, LORD, in the beginning laid the foundation of the earth, And the heavens are the work of Your hands.”
Quoting Ps 102:25
John 1:3 speaking about Jesus “All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.”
Col 1:16 speaking about Jesus “For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him.”
That includes us. We were created to praise Him. (Ps 102:18, Isa 43:21)
1 Cor 8:6 testifies that the Father and the Son both are the source of all things… both created… 1 Cor 8:6 “… yet for us there is one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we for Him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and through whom we live.”
Gen 1:2 testifies the Holy Spirit was also present in the Creation account… Gen 1:2And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.”
In the beginning God… all three were present… creating…
The word “God” in V1 is a fascinating word.
It’s a singular plurality… God is written in the singular, but the word is ʾĕlôhîym in Hebrew is plural.
In the Great Shema Deut 6:4 “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one!”
LORD- Yehovah is singular
God- elohim is plural.
God is a singular plurality.
We’ll read in Gen 1:26Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness...”
Who’s He talking to? Jews say He’s talking to angels, but we’re not made in the image of angels.
I’ve never seen anyone look like a Cherubim… that would be kind of freaky.
This is the trinity… there are all kinds of examples of the Trinity in the Bible…
Jesus’ Baptism… the Father speaks from Heaven and the Holy Spirit rests on Jesus.
It’s the Trinity… Father, Son, and Holy Spirit…
And, we are made in His likeness… a spirit being… with like characteristics… though presently fallen…
Also made in singular plurality… a trinity of mind, body, and spirit… but one flesh.
“In the beginning God created...”
Created… another fascinating word.
Hebrew bara- by def. to create from nothing.
He created something from nothing.
Which is why the Big Bang theory is so stupid…
In the beginning there was nothing and it exploded.
In the scientific method you have to reproduce an experiment with measured result but in the beginning, there was nothing and no one… so how can you re-create that?
But, people present that theory as fact… when it’s not.
But, we read that in the beginning God… … created…
He is a designer… as we go through Genesis… we will read of the six days of creation and God will look back on each day and declare “it was good.”
There is order in the galaxy… there is order in how gravity works… and how our earth spins… and doesn’t fall out of orbit… and doesn’t burn up from the sun…
Creation is not a cosmic explosion or accident.
Joe Focht likened the Big Bang to Sistine Chapel being created by taking a cart of paint and wheeling it into a church and putting C4 under the cart…
And, upon explosion… the paint flies everywhere and Voilà… the Sistine Chapel.
And, that’s just stupid because we know there was a designer… Michelangelo.
And, the universe… and our world… even the human eye is so much more intricate then painting on a ceiling and walls.
Ps 19:1 “The heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament shows His handiwork.”
Creation testifies of the reality of God.
And, that is what God created… “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”
Heavens… plural. The Bible speaks about three heavens… the Sky, the Universe, and the Dwelling place of God.
Don’t get that confused with the Mormon mis-interpretation… telestial, terrestial and celestial…
Lot’s of twisting of scripture there and works based righteousness.
Heavens is what we see in the sky… and what is beyond our sky… and what goes beyond the entire created universe.
Scientists say, “The observable universe is approximately 93 billion light-years in diameter.”
Whatever it actually it is… it’s big.
We’ve all seen those videos of creationists zooming out from earth with a radius of about 4000 miles… and we see our solar system… then our galaxy… the Milky Way.
And, we see the size of our sun… and then much larger stars… Sirius a dwarf star… then Elnath a Giant Star… and each swallows up the next… Pollux a red giant star… Arcturus… and Antares… Betelgeuse… Canis Majoris… beyond comprehension… a radius of 613 million miles… they say the largest known star in the universe is UY Scuti… a hypergiant star… a radius of 1.188 billion kilometers.
And, we consider the vast… what seems like infinite universe… and scripture declares God created it all… and God is infinitely larger than all the cosmos
in 2 Chr 6:18, Solomon said, “Behold heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain You.”
Ps 113:4 declares “The LORD is high above all nations, His glory above the heavens.”
We have work to do… and we are to occupy until He comes… but don’t fret…
He’s above it all… He’s on the throne…
He’s above all the crazy science that wants to intellectualize Him out.
He’s above the crazy politicians that want to create a world of immorality and godlessness.
They cannot erase… though they try… “In the beginning God.”
Worship team please come… and let me leave you with this…
You are not insignificant to God.
When we think of the expanse of the universe, we may feel like a mere ant…
But, Eph 1:4 declares “He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love...”
You are so important to God… that before even the foundation of the world was laid…
You were in His heart. He loved you and chose you from ages of old…
With purpose… to be holy…
For such a time as this… to be a light in the world at this time… and this season.
So, go… shine… and bring glory to His name.
Amen? Let’s pray.
“The LORD bless you and keep you;
The LORD make His face shine upon you, And be gracious to you;
The LORD lift up His countenance upon you,
And give you peace.” ’
